About Poway

Poway is located in the coastal foothills about 20 miles northeast of San Diego. It is 39.2 square miles of some of the most beautiful country in southern California and has an interesting, diverse history. The elevation ranges from 480 to 2,250 feet. Approximately 50,000 people live within the City of Poway boundaries.

Recreation and Parks
Poway’s proximity to mountains, lakes and seashore provides its residents with many opportunities to enjoy all outdoor activities only a few minutes from their home. It is a perfect area for horse lovers to explore the countryside. Beautifully located in the nearby rolling hills are six golf courses, situating Poway in the center of San Diego’s golf world. Within driving distance are more than 60 golf courses. In addition to private club facilities for swimming, tennis, and handball, the Olympic-sized swimming pools at Poway High School and Poway Community Park are open to the public. Poway is proud of its many active youth organizations including scouting, 4-H clubs, Little League, Girl’s Softball, Baseball, Pop Warner Football, and Soccer.

Lake Poway offers 50 acres of recreation and picnic space, as well as fishing and boating activities.

Climate
Poway’s climate is typical of southern California coastal valleys. Located approximately 10 miles from the ocean, Poway enjoys relatively low humidity and mild temperatures influenced by marine breezes.

Housing
Poway is a carefully planned community that blends a variety of retail businesses and municipal services with village hospitality. However, unlike many other planned communities, Poway is largely independent; many areas are free from homeowner’s associations and strict neighborhood regulations. Poway housing opportunities include affordable apartments, condos, townhomes, single family homes and multi-million dollar estates.
